March, 2014

Hello and welcome to the official Neil Daniels Books Newsletter for March 2014!

I've been busy promoting the recent release of my book on Neal Schon, Electric World, and my ZZ Top book, Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers. Lots of reviews have been coming in, and reviews of my Pantera (Reinventing Metal) and UFO (High Stakes & Dangerous Men) books are still being published. Check 'em out:

On Electric World:

"This is a very informative book regarding Schon and the maestro's career...Electric World is an interesting read and very informative book about the icon's status and history with and away from Journey."

Alison Bear – The Mayfair Mall Zine (www.themayfairmallzine.com)

"So this is written in a breezy, conversational style and not often looking deeper than chronological and celebratory narrative...this book brings you back to the music, which is what it's all about, really."

Steve Swift – Powerplay

On Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers:

"What it does is exactly what it says on the cover - it is a guide into one of America's best loved bands from their inception in 1969 to date. Everything you could ever want to know about ZZ Top is contained within the pages of Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers."

Nikk Gunns – Get Ready To Rock (www.getreadytorock.co.uk)

"The book is an insight into the group's rise to fame, the funny times and their rise to become iconic bearded rocking heroes. I really enjoyed the section on ZZ Top trivia, there's funny and intriguing examples to make you smile and laugh out loud."

Alison Bear – The Mayfair Mall Zine (www.themayfairmallzine.com)

"Daniels can tell a story, he has proved that; he keeps our interest and serves the music...this may be just what you're looking for in a fun, easy to digest, lovingly created book on an easy to love, not easy to know band."

Steve Swift – Powerplay

On High Stakes & Dangerous Men:

"Neil Daniels has made a great job of covering this very complicated story of a list of musicians joining UFO (and rejoining on occasions), with Phil Mogg being the only constant. Furthermore, full marks are deserved for bringing to life the contribution of each of these band members and not exclusively focussing on the Mogg/Way duo."

Rob McKenzie – Fireworks

"Neil Daniels has written a meticulously researched book about British band UFO, which formed in 1969 and has since released with varying line-ups more than twenty studio and live albums. Not since Martin Popoff's Shoot Out the Lights (2005) has this underrated rock band been graced with such an informative and insightful rendering. Daniels writes with the enthusiasm of a fan but with the fair but critical eye of a seasoned journalist."

Lisa Torem – Penny Black Music (www.pennyblackmusic.co.uk)

On Reinventing Metal:

"Equal measure is given to Pantera's musical output and to the personal trials and tribulations of the band members. The band's rise and collapse is covered comprehensively and brings to life their contribution to music and the claim that they were probably the best live 1990s metal band."

Rob McKenzie – Fireworks

"The likelihood of finding another band with the same impact in today's musical climate is slim, which makes a document like this all the more important as the band's story has been told for future generations of music fans to discover."

Nikk Gunns – Get Ready To Rock (www.getreadytorock.co.uk)

In other news, Sleeve Notes has been updated on the site with information on my latest essay. Thanks to Andy Gray of BGO for giving me the opportunity to write notes for the joint reissue of Russ Ballard's Barnet Dogs and Into The Fire. It's another welcome string to my bow. Check out the other sleeve notes I have written HERE

Finally, I've created a Facebook page for my forthcoming Iron Maiden book Killers, which explores the early years of the band from their genesis in 1975 to the release of Piece Of Mind in 1983. I'll update the page as often as possible with publication details, reviews, interviews and photos, etc. If you're an Iron Maiden fan or metal fan in general please 'Like' and 'Share' this page. Check out the page HERE

Thanks to everyone for checking out my website www.neildanielsbooks.com, which has now had over 2,000 hits since it was launched in January. April's Newsletter will include information on the publication of Killers and news on my forthcoming book on Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet.

Best wishes

Neil Daniels
